Nidec Motor Corporation seeks candidates for a Strategic Commodity Buyer role to support Nidec Motor Corporation’s businesses. This position is located in St. Louis, MO.

Responsible for the procurement of components related to electric motors, controls and drive systems. Execute the strategic decisions that drive commodity results toward corporate and division goal achievement. Demonstrate and promote achievement of division performance goals related to safety, innovation, quality, productivity, costs, continuous improvement and customer service.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates and executes the activities in the procurement of electrical components related to electric motors, controls, and drive systems. Maximizes material performance for best overall cost and quality.
  • Production support: Ensure execution of purchasing activities per direction of Procurement Lead to acquire material in cost effective and timely manner. Oversee component part performance aligned to product development, launch and manufacturing.
  • Negotiation: Participate in negotiation for commodity purchases with suppliers.
  • Reports and Documentation: Prepare monthly metrics and dashboards with related reports including material inflation, payables performance, lead-time improvement, on-time delivery, supplier quality performance, supplier consolidation and contract coverage.
  • Customer Focus: Dedication to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Obtain first-hand customers information and use it for improvements in products and services. Act with the customer in mind.
  • Cost Reductions: Propose cost savings through make/buy analysis, value engineering, alternative sourcing, volume discounts, vendor evaluation.
  • Quality: Ensure quality standards are met in every step of the process.
  • Safety: Contribute to a safe work environment and support safety improvement initiatives.
  • Project Management: Create and manage work plan and project team to goals. Prioritize and coordinate the project measures.
  • Customer Service and Delivery: Support customer service and delivery improvement initiatives.
  • 3Q6S: contribute to quality, lean process improvements, Six Sigma, 6S, employee involvement and cost initiatives.
  • Corporate Values and Compliance: Ensure compliance with corporate values, ethics and related compliance expectations.
  • Development: Continuously work to develop technical knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities within the scope of this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering, Finance (or related field).
  • 5 - 7 years of related experience in supply chain and/or procurement function, preferably in industrial manufacturing.
  • 5 - 7 years of commodity negotiation experience in a commodity related to electric motors, controls and drives. Prefer an emphasis in one or more of the following: Electronic components and Printed Circuit Board Assemblies.
  • Knowledge of materials manufacturing value stream and production processes.
  • Working knowledge of the global materials commodity markets, cost structure, suppliers and related factors.
  • Ability to speak and write fluent Spanish and English.
  • Advanced skills in navigate MSOffice Excel.
  • Ability to navigate and work effectively in a large corporate matrix organization.
  • Ability to cooperate with teams to achieve personal and company stretch goals.
